This is one city that does not seem to be! And small as it is, with ultra-religious folks who go to church daily at about 5AM, I never imagined I'd have something like "life" in Catbalogan. Just the same there was/is!
There are not so many places to go out into in Catbalogan. Foremost for the roamer though is a place called Imelda Park. Its an expansive park that stretches from the capitol building all the way to the end of the hospital across PNB. By daytime, Imelda Park is quite a lovely place of greeneries and colorful flowers. At night, the side streets of the park convert into tables and chairs where folks eat barbecues and drink beer. Ah hey, some even have videoke machines - those that are on the parking area of another government building. While an acquaintance told me the park can be "it", I didn't think I can. Yes there are trees and darker places but there are just so many doing it so I found it crowded!
There are other beer joints scattered throughout this small city but most are generally for the day workers calling it a day with red horse and some singing.
And then there is Cell.Com (yep, pronounced by many as cell-dot-com)! It is not an internet cafe hehe! Its a hotel (inn?) with a restaurant downstairs and a music lounge up on the 3rd level. And that is where the action is. Cute that the "hotel rooms" are on the second level - so it is very convenient if you want to "check-in". Now, the "public" comfort room is at 2nd floor so you still go down from the music lounge to visit it. And on your way, you may chance upon a door ajar with naked twosomes. Am not joking, I experienced this!
Anyway, my new acquaintance in the city took the active role of scouting around for me, as we drank beers at the music lounge. That music lounge btw, can get overly crowded especially when that showband is on - everyone here seems to like dancing. In no time, I was back at my room on second floor where a guy my companion hooked for me "requested" if he could bunk-in for a while before going home. And we went to the clouds, and the stars in heaven! Ay!
After the action, dude said he was already fine to drive his motorbike home, gave me one last kiss and said "I hope I made you happy"! Ahhhhh! And, that was it! No "payola" nor "faye dunaway" hehe! Then again, we spent for the beer.
In the morning, my new acquaintance of a fag arrived in his own motorbike and told me we should go to the beaches. I hopped in and we did! At one of those black sand beaches across a cemetery, there were boys but a lot of families having fun. We went ever more onwards to a resort that overlooks two islands. Guess what, my dude for the night arrived in his very own motorbike... joined us... and the rest is history!
Lesson: never underestimate the active sex life even at rural places!
