Dumaguete City

Well well well… Dumaguete! This is one big lively city… and big cities of course run big when it comes to availability of things gay! Am not sure if there is a gay bar in this city. Haven’t looked quite well as am not for those types anyway. I just cruise around and happy if there is, happy if there’s none!

Best and safest to have a go-see is the boulevard. Try to sit on a chair with a good view at any of the restaurants across. My favorite is Honeycomb Tourist Inn. There is a music bar with a nice view of the boulevard. It is air-conditioned (and you can smoke there) but the outside tables area grander! Oh no, it is not gay. But it is nice to lounge around in there and watch the boys go by while they too have a clear view of you! Honeycomb plays good old ‘80s music and videos and there is a live band during weekends.

If it is the wriggly type of gig you want, go into ‘Why Not’ a walk away to the left of Honeycomb. Don’t fret if you stumble upon tables with old foreign men drinking ay tables just outside of the door. The disco/music lounge (there are even games) is way in the dark insides. Don’t worry too, it is not seedy. It is not necessarily gay but easy to meet up and have fun with your targets hehe!

Though I won’t recommend it with much gusto, the park sandwiched by the cathedral and the city hall is one interesting place too! In there it is more direct where some boys will openly ask you if you want “jamming”. But the place teems with the C & D crowd where petty fights or shouting bouts can occur amongst them. Hard to get caught in the middle hehe!

I like strolling the length of Hubbard from the university down to the malls and commercial places along Perdices St. There are a lot of “sights” to see in the area – up to you if you can dare approach them. I did notice that the deeper it is into the night, the more approachable are the boys walking around this area. Well, it ends at the church and the park described above hehe!

Many of the restaurants are good places to see and be seen. Hayahay is one such place and with a good late afternoon to evening views. It is a big compound lining the highway by the edge of the sea. They have a fine dining area, a grill, a music lounge area and a pizza parlor. There is even a travel agency and little booths that sell souvenirs. Food is great everywhere especially the live crabs! The music bar are has choices of seats right in front or the tables with umbrellas. The bar is on both levels of a tree house! I must stress that I got “picked” here and the dear dude (now a friend) whisked me on his CRV to… my room over at Harolds hehe! BTW, when the bands are at play, look behind you to the street and the sea. The whole area will teem with boys, men, girls and just about everyone also out to watch and listen – only difference is they got their own drinks and not patrons of the restobar hehe! Quite clever. Well, ah those punks could be sitting on your hood as that place is the parking area (side of the street).

Oh, before I forget, there is a fairly new place at the back of the famous Silliman Hall (Katada St.?) called ‘Atong Kamalig’. It is fairly a restaurant with good food and a lot of barbecues but they too have live bands. And the crowd is fairly interesting – families to groups of friends. Whatever was there or whatever was with me during that night, I ended up with one of the waiters who has a nice body and had lived and studied in Metro Manila for a time! Deeelicious!

I am almost sure there will be other places worth our while in Dumaguete that I have not been to. But that should be for my next visit!

Tsadaha oi!

Dumaguete is a great place for gays. You can cruise the Rizal Park, but the better looking guys are hustlers. It's better to have an account on a site like PlanetRomeo. That's the way to meet locals. And for finalizing your encounter, there are lots of motels north of the airport (like Wild Wind, 250 pesos), or more to the west (Vila Real, 250 pesos). There's only one in the center called Imperial (Real Street, crossing with Bishop Epifanio Surban Street, 220 pesos) but that's only suitable if your local friend is not of the shy type. ;-)
But most hotels don't mind local visitors.

Just an update for those who are interested... You can go to the RIZAL Park (fronting the Cathedral) should you wish to meet some locals who are for pay.

After reading this blog, I went to try it for myself and was surprised that a lot of boys are waiting in the plaza and they actually approach you :)

Had fun last night. Thanks to this blog..
